Never sung in a choir before? No experience in Southeast Asian music? Worried that you can’t dance? (Honestly, we can’t either! 😬)
Regardless of your musical background and experience, we have a place for you in Suara!
2026-27 Recruitment!
Looking for a choir that feels like community? Looking for music-making that is collaborative, curious, and rooted in culture? We’re now recruiting singers into a season grounded in the rich musical traditions of SE Asia, where we explore songs shaped by play, ritual, storytelling, and everyday life across three cycles of shared learning and performance.
We also have some BIG plans coming up this year—but we can’t share them just yet. Stay tuned for our full season announcement in July.
Auditions will be held over Google Meet and include a short conversation about your musical background. There’s nothing you need to prepare. We will guide you through a few vocal warm-ups and tonal memory exercises.
🗓️ Tuesdays 7-9 PM
📍 St. Basil Catholic Church, Los Angeles

“Being in Yu Hang and Emily’s workshop, I felt as if I was teleported to different countries along with vibrant music and delicious food. I understood the meaning of the music and the root of the culture even though I am not a native from those countries. It was truly a delightful experience to be learning one’s culture through performing the music.”
